ISSA-NOVA Board Members

Bud Roth 

My name is Bud Roth. I put NetBSD on a Mac SE/30 and never looked back. I have some diverse interests. I spent 8 years of my life living in Japan where I earned an MA and competed in Judo as part of the Nagoya University team. I clerked at the Court of Chancery in Delaware and spent a few years doing Internet-based securities fraud investigations with the SEC Office of Internet Enforcement. After 9/11, I joined DoD and supported the GWOT, doing a number of overseas assignments before joining Deloitte. I now focus exclusively on cybersecurity issues as a private consultant and the Non-resident Fellow for Cybersecurity at Sasakawa USA.

Joe Klimkowski
Vice President of Operations

Greetings! My name is Joe Klimkowski. I am a former ISSA-NOVA board member who’s interested in seeing the chapter grow and become a national/international leader again. I have 15 years of experience in information security, with 10 years of programming experience prior to that. My network of contacts, project management, and experience in information security in various environments will help with chapter operations.

Seton Droppers 
Vice President of Technology

I passionately advocate with multiple stakeholders for practical solutions utilizing existing and new technology. Ensure solutions reduce unplanned interruptions and down-time. Support solutions with processes that build maturity over time. I have been an ISSA and ISSA-NOVA member for over ten years. The ISSA-NOVA chapter CISSP review was a key to successfully completing my CISSP exam on my first try.

Wendy Fox 
Vice President of Membership

As a member of the security management team for a Unisys Federal cloud storage project, Wendy Fox performs many aspects of information security including security assessment and authorization, audits, and personnel security. Wendy has been active for several years with ISSA, including serving as Director of Publications for ISSA NOVA (2013-2014), and as a volunteer at the 2014 ISSA International Conference. She has also volunteered at a number of industry events and conferences, including Security BSides DC and MD. As an active member of the community, Wendy is interested in working on outreach to potential new ISSA NOVA members to aid in increasing membership.

Karen Frederick
Vice President of Marketing

Karen Frederick is the Mid-Atlantic Director of Strategic Accounts for Tanium. With over 20 years of successful technology sales, Karen has sold globally for companies ranging from small startups to Fortune 500 companies. She has been an active member of ISSA International since 2009, and the ISSA-NOVA VP of Marketing since 2015.

Walter Cekala
Vice President of Education

Walter Cekala, VP-Education, ISSA-NOVA is a widely respected mentor and business/technology consultant. He has over 40 years in the networking industry with engineering and management positions at high profile organizations. Mr. Cekala has many public speaking engagements and several education and training classes to his credit. Walter is also a regular volunteer to civic and charitable organizations. Walter has served as Administrative Officer for the Air Command and Staff College and the Air War College. He is active with several professional organizations including the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Federal IT Security Institute (FITSI), and ISC(2). ISSA-NOVA Accomplishments and Activities. He currently serves as the ISSA NOVA VP of Education and is responsible for organizing the chapter’s popular CISSP course. If re-elected, he intends to expand our training offerings.

Ray Stamps
Vice President of Sponsorships

Raymond “Ray” Stamps is President and Founder of FedNetPartners. He has over 40 years’ experience in information technologies sales, marketing, and operations. FedNetPartners was founded in 2007 as an outsourced business development firm assisting federal government contractors grow their federal contracts as well as providing cybersecurity, Risk Management, Compliance and Behavior Analytic solutions to public sector, commercial, and non-profit organizations. Mr. Stamps is active in many organizations in the Washington, DC area. His activities have included: National Contract Management Association (NCMA) where he received the 2014 James E. Cravens Membership award for outstanding performance; Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) where he has participated in the Cybersecurity Mentoring Program and is currently VP of Sponsorships; Government Technology and Services Coalition (GTSC); ISACA; AFCEA; InfraGard; Washington Network Group; DeVry University Industry Advisory Council; Shenandoah Valley Runners; church Deacon; and substitute teacher for the Rappannock County (VA) Schools.

Michael Craghead
Vice President of Programs

I have been a member of ISSA-NOVA since 2010, shortly after obtaining my CISSP certification. A regular attendee at chapter meetings except for a 2-year period when working outside of the DC metro area. While a member I have been a semi-regular attendee of the ISSA-NOVA Risk Management Lifeboat group, and also attended ISSA-NOVA’s first Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional (CSSLP) preparation course offering. I have over 20 years in the Information Technology (IT) field. Started my professional career as a software developer. In 2004, by chance, transitioned to Information/Cyber Security, or whatever you want to call it 😊. Worked for a mobile telecom company supporting their internal Identity and Access Management (IAM) systems. Have worked in IAM in some form or another since then, and currently working for one of the top professional services companies as a consultant. ISSA-NOVA has incubated many great leaders for both the chapter and for the international ISSA organization. I have always considered becoming one of those leaders. Now is the time!

Sandra Fonseca
Vice President of Finance

Dr. Sandra Fonseca is Full Time Professor of Information Systems, Systems Security & Audit, and Project Management at Northcentral University, and Adjunct Faculty at George Mason University. Dr. Fonseca has over 30 years of Information Technology professional experience both in the private and public sector in Puerto Rico and DC, 15 of them as a Systems Security Manager for a financial and savings institution. She’s been teaching graduates and undergraduates for 23 years and holds a Doctoral Degree on Management Information Systems (DBA) from Turabo University, part of Ana G. Méndez Educational System, a Master’s Degree in Information Systems (MIS) and a Graduate Certificate in Audit Information Systems from EDP University. Dr. Fonseca is also an active member at professional associations such as the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), Puerto Rico Chapter, where she served as Secretary and CISA/CISM Coordinator for the Puerto Rico Chapter Board of Directors, 2007-2008. Served as the VP of Education for the Puerto Rico Chapter of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA), and VP of Education and Certifications for the Puerto Rico Chapter – Project Management Institute (PMI). She collaborated with the ISO21500 Latin America Committee, and member of the content committee for the PMBOK 6th. Ed. Handbook. She’s also a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE).
