Cynthia James – General Manager of Kaspersky Government Security Solutions

How can U.S. businesses and government agencies get relevant cybersecurity data as quickly as needed from hostile regions where malware campaigns are currently being developed?  Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) alerts are ideally received real time, which requires a wide distribution of collection points, diversely spread across relevant organizations and geographies.  The problem is that the Federal government distrusts most sources of cyber intelligence from these same territories.

In this presentation, Cynthia discusses the biggest problems with information sharing and retrieval from these regions today and a framework for addressing those challenges.  As it turns out, this problem can be solved the same way as other such trust issues: by utilizing the latest information sharing platforms.  This has the potential for solving much more in the world of cyber, such as enabling calculation of the formerly elusive Return On Investment (ROI), and of turning the problem of asymmetric attack on its head.

Kaspersky Government Security Solutions (KGSS) is a subsidiary of Kaspersky Labs that is well known for its antivirus software and other cybersecurity products. Kaspersky Labs has the largest market-share of the cybersecurity software vendors in Europe.

Cynthia James, CISSP, is the General Manager of KGSS, which is the exclusive channel for Kaspersky Lab data to reach the U.S. federal government and its designated Critical Infrastructure.  Cynthia has spent twenty-five years in high tech with the last ten years engaged in cybersecurity.  She earned her CISSP certification in 2011 and published Stop Cybercrime from Ruining Your Life! Sixty Secrets to Keep You Safe in 2013.  She holds an undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of California (Santa Cruz) and in 2016 completed her Master’s degree in Cybersecurity Strategy and Information Management from George Washington University.  Cynthia resides in California and works in Arlington, VA.
